Hello friends, and welcome to all new subscribers.
I wanted to invite you all to be the first to join our new book club, launching March 18th. We have been kicking around this idea in the Discord and I decided the Lenten season would be a great time to start as we make efforts to swap screen time with quiet reflection. This will be a motivator for us all to actually read and process entire books for once, as a group.
I will say, this is guaranteed to be like no other book club you’ve seen. Should you chose to join us, on top of the fellowship and networking opportunities, you’ll gain some valuable new systems and tools for reading more effectively and building a permanent knowledge base as you go.
We will read non-fiction works that are well-written, easily digestible, rich in esoteric and eschatological themes and will hopefully strengthen you both spiritually and intellectually.
What You Will Get
Improve your reading, writing and research skills.
Access to an exclusive community of likeminded Orthodox thinkers.
Access to over 10 hours of live recordings from all previous sessions.
Learn the lost art of note-making.
Weekly live voice calls where we will discuss our readings, share notes and insights and have a casual hangout.
Q&A with book authors (tenatively)
Reading List and Schedule
This is a rough outline of the reading schedule. Each book will be broken down into segments so you can have reading goals to aim for. The reading list is also determined by the community as we collect submissions and conduct a poll to see which books have the most interest.
March
Antichrist: The Fulfillment of Globalization by G. M. Davis PhD
May
Kabbalah and the Founding of America: The Early Influence of Jewish Thought in the New World by Brian Ogren
June
TBA
What if I already ready 1 or more of these books?
If you have already read any of these, I would definitely encourage you to still join and gain a fresh perspective. You’ll have the added bonus of learning how to start a commonplace book and/or zettelkasten note taking system so you can archive valuable insights and transform your readings into knowledge assets.
What if I can’t keep up with the readings?
That is perfectly fine. Everyone reads at a different pace and we all have busy schedules to varying degrees. This is the advantage of the book club: as long as you can make some time to listen in on our discussions or take part in the community, you’ll gain the knowledge and key insights in these books even if you don’t read a single page.
What if I want to join while readings are already underway?
No problem. Each session we will recap what we have gone over so far and there will be a backlog of recorded meetings, chats and resources for you to access upon joining.
How much will it cost?
If you wish to follow along with our readings, you will have to buy the books we are reading if you don’t have them already, which will cost $16 on average. It is absolutely not required though. But I can promise you that regardless, you’ll gain a valuable knowledge out of each book as we read through the and share our insights together. Some of you may even have 1 or more of these books already.
Additional costs: If you want to join our live workshops or follow along in making a commonplace book and/or zettelkasten, you’ll just need a notebook and/or 4x6 index cards.
Technically, you don’t need to buy anything other than a $7 subscription fee to join. You’ll get well over $7 per month in value just from being part of the exclusive community.
How do I join?
When you become a paid subscriber, you will gain access to our Discord server where we be in contact with each other and host meetings, discussions and live workshops.
Once you’re a paid subscriber, you’ll immediately get a thank you email with a link to the Discord server. Click the link and from there it you’ll verify the your subscription with the email associated with your Substack account, then you’re in.
I hope to see you in there!
