In June 2017, I was at work at a local university with my boss, a professor. The halls were empty as it was after the end of the semester. I turned to tell him that a dear friend's funeral was that evening. My friend was a Russian Orthodox former monk, who had also been a Catholic priest at one time. I and my former boss are Catholic. Suddenly, just as I mentioned my friend, directly outside a large window appeared a brilliant ball of pure white light. It was very close, perhaps a few feet away in the branches of a green tree. It pulsated for about 30 seconds and then abruptly disappeared. That night, I went to the Orthodox church with my son, who is Orthodox. The orbs are real and have a spiritual aspect, but do you think they are all demonic? I've wondered if it was my friend. Prayers were being said over his body at the monent we witnessed it.
Hi Margotte, thank you for sharing that story. Very interesting. Would you mind if I commented on it during my next livestream? It might be beneficial for others who have had similar experiences.
My initial thoughts are that we don’t see of any visions of light orbs in the lives of the saints so I am very skeptical that this was from God. Some have seen the Uncreated Light but they were very holy people who typically lived in extreme asceticism.
We are supposed to question these things and “test the spirits” so we do not fall into a spiritual delusion. God will always honor this and if he wants to speak to us in a revelatory manner like this, he will do it despite your doubt.
I would think this is a better suited question for an Orthodox priest but regardless I am glad you had an encounter with Orthodoxy that left a lasting impression.
Of course you may discuss it. It might not have had anything to do with my friend's death, of course. It did not cast shadows but instead, pastel colored light on the walls. I wrote a short article about it which appeared in Fortean Times magazine, and later the professor and I did a simple experiment to see if a very strong flashlight outside the window would look the same (it didn't), and they published a follow-up. I bought an e copy of the book you reviewed. Looking forward to reading it. P.s. I met one of the guys from Skinwalker Ranch, Dr. Travis Taylor, a couple of years ago at a convention. He was talking about orbs and said they were dangerous if they touch someone. A woman on the ranch had a blue one pass through her body and was diagnosed with a rare cancer. I told him about the one I saw and he asked how close it was. I said it was within five feet and I was diagnosed with breast cancer within a year. So this might fit with them being demonic. The professor seems to believe they are ball lightning which seems possible too although why are so many appearing now? One final note: at no time during the experience did the idea of the light being a ufo occur to either of us. It was the size of a soccer ball and no more than 6 feet away. The idea of these orbs being alien or ufos is something new. My dad saw one in the 1960's and viewed it for 10 or 20 minutes from 100 yards away. He called it a "spooklight."
Psalm 127: 1 “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain.” I love how God is working through you brother!
Thank you brother may God bless you
Well deserved brother.
